Pizza Dough Recipe

How did pizza come into existence?

Pizza has emerged as the favourite food of all times. It is loved and devoured by people all over the world. The reason for the popularity of pizza is that the use of flour with different kinds of toppings makes it more satisfying to consume. Pizza is the food of the common man, isn’t it? And its good with doses of vegetables also. You can’t think

of having a lobster every time for an evening meal or on a date. It costs you something, whereas a pizza means a higher value for the money spent. It is delicious to an unimaginable extent and that’s pizza. Layered with slices of mozzarella, basil, olive oil, and pesto and baked in oven, this dish serves the most demanding of guests and relatives. Pizza can’t be resisted by any one when one thinks of the toppings present on it from chicken sausages, to lobster to olives.

The origins of pizza can be traced back to the times of the Ancient Greeks when they started garnishing bread with herbs, cheese and oil to please their taste buds. Romans also experimented with their plain bread and used toppings of honey and cheese on a sheet of flour. But the pizza that exists today was actually discovered in Italy in the form of Neapolitan pie with tomato. The original version did not have cheese which was added in 1889.

The entry of Pizza into the America, England and France only happened during World War 2. The taste of this dish was introduced into the mouths of British soldiers once they occupied parts of Italy during the war. The dough used in pizza is baked in oven after giving it a round shape. The most popular toppings may vary according to a certain region. But tomato and cheese toppings are available in all parts of the world. Ground beef, ham, bacon, sea food and chicken are the distinct kinds of toppings used in different regions.

Due to this reason only, Peter Reinhart who is a famous bread baker once said that Pizza is the perfect flavour delivery system. We all love our pizza made with any kind of a crust. However, more taste can be added to it with butter, herbs or garlic or if you want something pleasant, cheese.

Pizza has come up with many variants in different parts of the world. The oldest and perhaps the most authentic version of Pizza, Neapolitan pizza is made with San Marzano tomatoes, which are grown in Italy and also includes milk of water buffalo. Grilled pizza, another delicacy, one can be fond of is baked on a barbecue grill. And we all know the pleasure of having it, eaten on it on many occasions of pool side barbecue dinners. Calzone is the newest kind of pizza making its entry in many restaurants all over the world. It has the shape of a half moon and is stuffed with mozzarella, salami and ricotta.

Pizza is baked using the oven with stone bricks placed on top of the source of heat, or an electric deck oven. In homes, use is made of the pizza stone to get the similar impact like the brick oven.

Pizza, the word represents the most stunning dish of our times. Be it any time of the day, a pizza can satiate the hunger of our bellies. The choices of toppings that can rev up the pizza are salami, beef, and pepperoni with a glass of beer. And one thing that further accentuates the state of a pizza is the seasoned tomato sauce prepared with Roma tomatoes freshly picked from one’s own garden.
